Al Aasy heads up Coronation field

William Haggas' Al Aasy heads a field of seven contenders for Friday's Coronation Cup at Epsom.

The four-year-old is heavily fancied to strike in the Group One contest at the first time of asking, after easing to two Group Three victories this season.

Aiden O'Brien will hope one of his two entries, Mogul and Japan, can upset Al Aasy, while Pyledriver is set to represent William Muir and Chris Grassick.

Pyledriver is familiar with the Downs, having endured a tough time in last year's Derby, although he did come up good when winning Group Two gold at Royal Ascot and York. The seven-strong field is completed by Kirsten Rausing-owned duo Alpinista, Albaflora and Highland Chief.

Santa Barbara chasing Epsom Classic glory

Santa Barbara is the pick of a 14-strong field declared for Friday's Cazoo Oaks at Epsom on Friday.

He earned plenty of admirers when sealing victory on debut at the Curragh in September and came home fourth in last month's 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The three-year-old is one of five entries for Aidan O'Brien, with Snowfall, Divinely, Willow and La Joconde. The Archie Watson-trained Sherbet Lemon and Roger Varian's Save A Forest are also expected to challenge.

Mystery Angel is included in the field after members of the Nick Bradley Racing syndicate stumped up £22,500 earlier this week.

Bradley said: "The track will suit and she appears to be in very good form - she's in better form at home than she was going to York.

"She looks overpriced a little bit at the moment, I think. We're hopeful of a good run."

Il Grande Gatsby strikes in Rome

Promising first-season sire Churchill got off the mark as a sire with Il Grande Gatsby delivering at the Capannelle in Rome on Wednesday.

The Coolmore stallion earned a comfortable first triumph on his second outing when beating Raimark by a length and a half over seven furlongs.

Son of Galileo, Churchill, was a dual Guineas winner and claimed four top-level victories in a stellar 13-race career.

Innisfree on the comeback trail

Innisfree hasn't been seen since finishing second in the 2019 Verterm Futurity Trophy but Aidan O'Brien feels a return to action isn't too far down the line.

His hopes of a Classic campaign were halted by injury but O'Brien has secured entries in the Coral-Eclipse, the Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe as he looks to have his charge back on the racecourse before the end of the summer.

O'Brien said: "He got an injury last year so we took our time with him and we had him nearly ready to run again in the spring, but he went a little bit off on us again.

"We had to back off him again. He's done very well physically and I'd imagine he's six weeks away from running. "We're looking at the second half or quarter of the season."
