Meade intrigued to see his Eagle at Ascot

Martyn Meade is looking forward to seeing how Lone Eagle fares when he goes in Saturday's King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes. 

The three-year-old was a close second to Hurricane Lane in June's Irish Derby and takes on another Godolphin Derby winner at Ascot, with Adayar set to run, while Aidan O'Brien's Love is also in the field. 

Frankie Dettori is expected to retain the ride and Meade is excited to see whether the pair can kick on from that near-miss at the Curragh. 

The Marlborough-handler says he couldn't have asked for much more from the Galileo colt during his recent run in Ireland and is "confident" he can show further improvement. 

Meade said: "I was thrilled with his run at the Curragh — everything he did in the race was right, apart from the result I suppose.

"He's come out of it very well. He's a horse that is very straightforward and he's just flourishing, I think. 

"Saturday is a big task, but I'm confident he'll produce a really good showing there." 

Stradivarius ready for Goodwood

John Gosden reports Stradivarius to be in "good order" as he prepares to return at the Goodwood Cup. 

The seven-year-old's last outing saw him come up short in his bid for a fourth Ascot Gold Cup but he is odds-on for victory next Tuesday following the withdrawal of his conqueror, Mark Johnston's Subjectivist. 

Stradivarius has already won the Goodwood Cup a record four times and his handler seems to think he has every chance of extending that run. 

He said: "He's been in good order since Royal Ascot. The Gold Cup was a fascinating race and Subjectivist put in a superb performance. 

"I'd love to have got in a race with the winner but we never had the opportunity to get there and that's life." 

Molecomb next for Chipotle

Eve Johnson Houghton is eyeing up the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood for Chipotle following Saturday's frustrating defeat at Newbury. 

Sent off as the favourite, the two-year-old was hampered in his running, with Johnson suggesting he "got absolutely wiped out twice" by his rivals. 

Chipotle, who won the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot, eventually finished ninth of 22 runners on Saturday and connections are now eyeing redemption at Goodwood. 

Johnson Houghton insists there were positives to take despite that Newbury defeat and is already looking forward to next Saturday. 

She said: "He was only beaten three lengths and that was with having been stopped in his tracks at least twice. 

"I think it's fair to say he was very, very unlucky - he'll probably go to the Molecomb next." 

Space Blues set for Lennox defence

Last year's winner Space Blues is one of 23 horses left in the field at the six-day confirmation stage for the Lennox Stakes. 

The five-year-old has not been seen since finishing out of the places in March's Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan. 

That result came on the back of the previous month's victory at Riyadh and he will now head back to Goodwood to defend the crown he won by two lengths from Duke Of Hazzard last year. 

Space Blues is joined in the field for Tuesday's seven-furlong affair by fellow Charlie Appleby charges Creative Force and Glorious Journey. 

Duke Of Hazzard also returns, as do Escobar and Safe Voyage, who finished third and four respectively in 2020.
