LiveScore Daily is here to deliver all the big talking points from the world of football throughout the day. Keep refreshing this page for the latest stories in bite-sized chunks.

Social media is not Ralf's bag

Ralf Rangnick has told his Manchester United players: Talk to me in person instead of venting on social media.

The German’s comments come in the wake of Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, who is currently on loan at Sevilla, posting contradictory messages after being omitted from first-team squads last month.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s Premier League game with Burnley, Rangnick said: "It's always better [to communicate in person].

"I never, ever read or communicate by social media accounts, I don't even exist there, to be honest, I wouldn't have time to do that.

"Therefore, it's always better [to communicate in person]. I always communicate with the players directly, like I did with Martial and with Jesse.

"But maybe I am a different generation, my generation never grew up with these kinds of things.

"For me, it's always better to communicate directly, but again it's time to look ahead.

"I know in both cases what I said to the players and what happened, so for me, there is no reason to discuss this more."

Pep remains Guarded

Pep Guardiola refuses to be drawn on speculation about his future at Manchester City.

With the Spaniard's contract due to expire next year, there is growing belief he will sign a new deal to remain at the Etihad.

But Guardiola, 51, insists he is not looking too far into the future — largely because things can change so quickly in football.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's Premier League showdown with Brentford, he said: "We won a lot and are winning a lot, otherwise I would not be in front of you after six seasons.

"Many people convinced me to come here but after one, two, three, four, five seasons, it depends on results.

"I still have one-and-a-half years left on my contract, it is a lot of time in world football. See how [many] managers were sacked this season, not just in England but in the world."

Mount a doubt

Mason Mount is a doubt for Chelsea's Club World Cup semi-final against Al Hilal tomorrow.

The England midfielder, 23, picked up a knock as the Blues edged past Plymouth in the FA Cup fourth round.

And assistant manager Zsolt Low, who is handling first-team affairs while Thomas Tuchel isolates, has confirmed he will be assessed before the match.

Low said: "Mason is getting better and better every day.

"We'll see how he moves and feels today and take the last decision tomorrow. We had a hard FA Cup game with 120 minutes and a long trip here.

"We have to use the first two days to recover and slowly today we are prepared for a good session and game.

"With the four-hour time difference, players couldn't sleep very well — they need this time to play the game."

Salah raring to go

Mohamed Salah could return to Premier League action when Liverpool face Leicester on Thursday.

The striker, 29, was left devastated as Egypt lost the Africa Cup of Nations final to Senegal last Sunday.

But Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed Salah is already back on Merseyside and looking forward to playing again.

Klopp said: "Mo is now back. He is very disappointed of course but looking forward to all the things coming up here now.

"I spoke to him and pretty much the first thing Mo told me was, 'I'm ready'.

"He is an experienced player, he is a physical monster, to be honest, so we have to see.

"He will obviously have a little recovery session. We will see how he feels tomorrow and go from there."

Crowd trouble in the spotlight

The Premier League and EFL have launched an urgent review into the recent spike in crowd trouble.

Incidents have increased by more than a third across all divisions in English football this season, according to police figures.

Following a meeting between the Premier League and head of football policing Mark Roberts last month, the safety officers of all 92 clubs have been sent a questionnaire to collect data and monitor trends.

And Roberts has urged supporters to play their part in nipping misbehaviour in the bud.

He said: "They need to come out and start condemning this behaviour as well because the vast majority of people who go to football, the overwhelming majority, are just decent folk who want to go and enjoy the game.

"The fans need to start calling it out as well — they need to say this is unacceptable and not what we want."

Mental health battles

Chris Sutton and Micah Richards have spoken about the difficulties footballers can experience with their mental health.

In the wake of Wayne Rooney revealing he turned to drink to cope with the pressures of fame, the duo gave their thoughts on BBC Radio 5 live's Monday Night Club.

Sutton, 48, enjoyed prolific spells with Norwich, Blackburn and Celtic before hanging up his boots.

But things did not go well during his season with Chelsea in 1999-2000, when he netted just one Premier League goal.

The former striker said: "I can laugh about it now but in my time at Chelsea when I was going through a difficult phase I'd keep things to myself.

"When things were going wrong and I was the laughing stock in the national press and there were caricatures, I used to behave like I didn't care but it killed me and I was too ashamed to speak to my dad about it and my wife.

"That had a big effect on me. Eventually I worked my way out of it."

Richards, 33, won the Premier League and FA Cup with Manchester City and has built a successful career as a pundit since retiring in 2019.

But he struggled during his final days as a player at Aston Villa due to injuries restricting his appearances.

The former England defender said: "I was going into Villa every week borderline depressed.

"Going in there as a cheerleader and putting on a brave face because that was my role within the team.

"But if I actually told you the honest conversation about what used to happen when I used to go to the training ground, it got to the situation where I was being treated like a piece of meat.

"I understood that was football and got on with it, I didn't come out and call people out and feel sorry for myself.

"Now I can be my own person and that is why I am happy. I embrace all the opportunities football has given me but I am not going to pretend like I wasn't in a bad place. I can sympathise with Rooney."

Trezeguet set for Villa exit

Trezeguet is set to join a Turkish side on loan from Aston Villa.

Despite the Premier League transfer window closing last month, clubs in Turkey can still conduct business — and Istanbul Basaksehir appear in pole position to land the Egypt midfielder.
