Having won the Premier League title back in 2016, Leicester City find themselves now staring down the barrel of possible relegation from the top flight as they host Liverpool on Monday.

The Reds have recently found the form that delivered their own title success in 2020 but Jurgen Klopp's side have given themselves a mountain to climb if they are to finish in the top four this season.

Team news

Leicester boss Dean Smith has no fresh injury concerns following their 5-3 defeat at the hands of Fulham last time out.

Experienced defender Jonny Evans returned from injury to feature on the bench against the Cottagers and will be pushing for a starting role to face Liverpool.

Smith will still have to do without Ryan Bertrand, James Justin and Jannik Vestergaard, who have all been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Kelechi Iheanacho has been out with a groin injury and is approaching a return, however, the clash with Liverpool is set to come too soon for the former Manchester City striker.

As for the visitors, Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita have both been ruled out of the trip to the East Midlands with muscular problems, while Stefan Bajcetic, Calvin Ramsay and Thiago Alcantara remain long-term absentees.

Jordan Henderson came off the bench to feature against Brentford last time out in a 1-0 victory for the Merseysiders and is in line to make a start against the Foxes.

The stats

Leicester have a decent home record against Liverpool, having won both of their last two league meetings at the King Power Stadium.

Both teams have scored in all of Leicester's last six games in the Premier League, while they have conceded an unenviable seven goals in their last two outings against Everton and Fulham.

Liverpool find themselves in a rich vein of form as they are on an eight-game unbeaten run, which includes six consecutive wins, going into Monday's encounter.

Scoring 17 goals in that six-game winning run, Klopp's side have found their cutting edge in recent weeks as they make a late push for a top-four finish.

Diogo Jota has an impressive record in this fixture as the former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward has scored seven goals in his last seven matches against Leicester, despite not starting all of those clashes with the Foxes.

Prediction

Considering the rate at which Liverpool have been scoring and Leicester conceding, there should be plenty of goals in this clash at the King Power.

The Foxes may be second from bottom but they are the highest scorers in the bottom half, while only the top two have scored more than Liverpool.

Two of the last three meetings between these teams in Leicester have ended with over 3.5 goals and that trend might well continue in an end-to-end game on Monday.
