Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham

European champions Chelsea looked set for a triumphant return to Stamford Bridge thanks to a Hakim Ziyech brace before Tottenham battled back in the second half to earn a draw in West London.

The Blues, who paraded their Porto winnings pre-match, started well and got a deserved opener 16 minutes in when Ziyech brought the ball forwards unchallenged before taking aim from the edge of the box, firing low to the left of Pierluigi Gollini.

The Moroccan, 28, then doubled his and Chelsea’s tally shortly after the break when Marcos Alonso managed to hook the ball back into his path, taking a touch before picking out the bottom corner once more.

But Nuno Espirito Santo’s side pulled one back in the 56th minute when Dele Alli’s blocked effort fell at the feet of Lucas Moura.

The Brazilian pulled the trigger from just inside the Chelsea area, only for his effort to deflect off of Antonio Rudiger, leaving Edouard Mendy helpless.

Thomas Tuchel made wholesale changes in the 63rd minute, with his seven introductions disrupting his side's dominance at the expense of game time.

And Tottenham capitalised on the drop-off, bagging an equaliser with 20 minutes left when Heung-Min Son set up Steven Bergwijn, who managed to find a way through the legs of Mendy.

Nuno was pleased with the fightback he saw from his side.

The Spurs boss said: "It shows character, it shows determination, it shows belief and hard work. The boys really worked hard."

Leicester 3-2 Villarreal

The Foxes ended their pre-season with a victory over Europa League champions Villarreal, but the match was overshadowed by a serious injury to Wesley Fofana.

Leicester looked in good shape from the start and took the lead when Caglar Soyuncu powerfully headed home summer arrival Ryan Bertrand’s free-kick.

They doubled their advantage shortly after when Harvey Barnes beat the offside trap and fired high into the roof of the net, giving his side a comfortable advantage going into half time.

Brendan Rodgers made four changes at the break — and two of them combined to make it 3-0.

Neat interplay between subs Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Patson Daka gave Ayoze Perez the simplest of jobs to score.

It was soon after this when the mood turned. A nasty challenge from Fer Nino on Fofana left the Leicester man requiring urgent treatment before being carried off on a stretcher.

That looks to be a bitter blow for the Foxes, with one of their standout players from the previous campaign now appearing set for a long spell on the sidelines.

Villarreal pulled two back in the final five minutes through Nino and Alex Millan but the game had long become irrelevant in light of Fofana’s plight.

Ajax 4-0 Leeds

Leeds' Premier League preparations had taken them to the Dutch capital — but those watching would have been forgiven for thinking the Whites had been on a lads’ holiday rather than a rigorous training camp.

Ajax took the lead within two minutes as Davy Klassen pounced on some lazy Leeds defending, stealing possession before slotting home.

It was two just before the half-hour mark when Perr Schuurs played a neat give-and-go with Dusan Tadic before squeezing the ball past Illan Meslier.

Ryan Gravenberch sensationally fired in a third from 25 yards to ensure the hosts were cruising at the break.

Leeds tightened up in the second half but could not prevent a fourth Ajax goal in the 83rd minute, when Danilo picked up a loose pass before finding the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
