The Premier League gets under way in less than a week — and plenty of England's top-flight clubs were in pre-season action today, ahead of the big kick-off.

Arsenal 6-0 Sevilla

Summer signing Gabriel Jesus netted a hat-trick as Arsenal thrashed Sevilla 6-0 to lift the Emirates Cup.

The Gunners were four goals to the good with just 19 minutes on the clock, after two strikes apiece from Bukayo Saka and Jesus put Mikel Arteta's men in complete control against their Spanish opponents.

Arsenal's new £45million Brazilian struck again in the 77th minute, before fellow frontman Eddie Nketiah added further gloss to proceedings by firing home in the game's closing stages.

The result wraps up an impressive pre-season for the North Londoners — and particularly for Jesus, who has scored a remarkable seven times.

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Manchester United

Manchester United suffered their first defeat of the Erik ten Hag era, after Joao Felix's late strike secured a 1-0 victory for Atletico Madrid.

Today's encounter in Oslo was light on action until the closing stages, when the Portuguese sensation scored in the 86th minute — before Fred saw red for a second booking in stoppage time.

But United supporters will have been pleased to see new signing Christian Eriksen make his debut for the Red Devils, despite the disappointing result at the Ullevaal Stadion.

Tottenham 0-1 Roma

Jose Mourinho got one over his old employers, as Roma beat Tottenham 1-0 in Israel.

Roger Ibanez headed home a first assist from new Giallorossi signing Paulo Dybala on 29 minutes, with Spurs unable to find a reply.

It was an uninspiring performance from Antonio Conte's charges, though Harry Kane did have a strong penalty claim denied in the second half.

Newcastle 2-1 Athletic Bilbao

Newcastle registered their second victory in the space of just two days, after beating Athletic Bilbao 2-1 at St James' Park.

The Magpies followed up on a 1-0 triumph over Atalanta by narrowly edging past the Basque outfit, with Callum Wilson netting an early fourth-minute opener.

Allan Saint-Maximin doubled the hosts' lead on 54 minutes, before Raul Garcia grabbed a 65th-minute consolation.

Southampton 1-2 Villarreal

Joe Aribo scored an outstanding debut goal for Southampton — but the Saints still succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Villarreal.

Exciting starlet Yeremy Pino headed the Yellow Submarine into a 15th-minute lead, before a sublime solo run from former Rangers midfielder Aribo levelled things up just after the hour mark.

However, prolific frontman Gerard Moreno restored the visitors' lead on 72 minutes, to inflict a second pre-season loss on Ralph Hasenhuttl's outfit.

Brighton 5-1 Espanyol

A Leandro Trossard hat-trick ensured Brighton go into the season full of confidence, as the Seagulls ran out 5-1 winners against Espanyol at the Amex Stadium.

The Belgium international scored three times in the space of 15 second-half minutes, after centre-backs Adam Webster and Lewis Dunk had put Graham Potter's men in control of proceedings.

Former Stoke and Newcastle forward Joselu pulled one back on 77 minutes — but his effort will do little to dampen optimism on the South Coast.

Crystal Palace 4-2 Montpellier

Supporters at Selhurst Park were served up a goal fest — with Odsonne Edouard's first-half brace helping Crystal Palace on their way to a 4-2 triumph over Montpellier.

The Eagles cruised into a 4-0 lead following strikes from Wilfried Zaha and Marc Guehi, either side of Edouard's 32nd and 44th-minute goals.

Stephy Mavididi netted twice for the visitors in the second half but his efforts could only halve the deficit in South London.

Bournemouth 1-2 Real Sociedad

A cool finish from Junior Stanislas was not enough to stop Bournemouth falling to a 2-1 defeat at home to Real Sociedad.

The attacker slotted in an 80th-minute shot after Mikel Merino and Igor Zubeldia had put La Real 2-0 up.

But the team that finished sixth in LaLiga last term held on for the win.

Rennes 1-2 Aston Villa

Leon Bailey continued his remarkable return to form with another strike in Aston Villa's 2-1 win against Rennes.

That is now three goals in pre-season for the Jamaica international, who is pushing for a starting spot in Steven Gerrard's team next weekend.

Arthur Theate had opened the scoring for Rennes on seven minutes — but Bailey's effort and an 81st-minute winner from summer signing Diego Carlos saw the Villans come out on top.

Nottingham Forest 1-1 Valencia

Last season's star man Brennan Johnson showed that he has what it takes to score against top-quality opposition, as he helped Nottingham Forest claim a credible 1-1 draw with Valencia.

Carlos Soler put Los Che ahead just before half-time, only for Johnson to level things up with seven minutes left to play.

Sporting 1-1 Wolves

Wolves have a squad packed full of Portuguese talent — but they could not find a way past Lisbon giants Sporting.

Both teams were only able to score from the spot, as Ruben Neves netted a penalty before his former team-mate Pedro Goncalves equalised.

Brentford 1-0 Real Betis

Brentford ended their pre-season preparations with a narrow 1-0 victory against Real Betis.

Bryan Mbeumo scored the game's only goal on 29 minutes, when he converted after great work down the left from Rico Henry.

Lens 0-0 West Ham

Neither team could make a breakthrough in France, as Lens held West Ham to a 0-0 draw.

Jarrod Bowen was inches away from finding a winner when he turned Conor Coventry's cross on to the bar, though the hosts were also unlucky not to score when Salis Abdul Samed hit the woodwork.
