Glorious Goodwood is one of the summer's racing highlights and the famous Sussex Downs will be the backdrop for top-class equine excellence the next five days.

The Festival begins today and concludes on Saturday. Here is a look ahead to some of the highlights in store this week.

Group 1 action on day one comes via the Goodwood Cup at 3.35pm as star stayer Stradivarius looks to win a fifth renewal of this contest for John and Thady Gosden.

He missed out on the race last year as Trueshan won for Alan King and Hollie Doyle and they are back for more alongside Ascot Gold Cup winner Kyprios for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore.

Meanwhile, in a big move, Stradivarius' owner Bjorn Nielsen has dispensed with Frankie Dettori after expressing disappointment at his ride in that Ascot race in June, with Andrea Atzeni booked here instead.

The supporting card on day one includes the Vintage Stakes at 2.25pm, where Karl Burke's Royal Ascot winner Holloway Boy tackles the likes of Mysterious Knight (Charlie Appleby) and Dear My Friend (Mark Johnston).

Tip of the day: Stradivarius can return to winning ways under Atzeni.

The Sussex Stakes will grab the headlines at 3.35pm on Wednesday and the unbeaten Baaeed gets top billing for William Haggas and rider Jim Crowley.

Can anything topple this exciting son of Sea The Stars?

Last year's winner Alcohol Free arrives on the back of July Cup glory at Newmarket and goes back up in trip, while Order Of Australia, Modern Games and Chindit provide more stern competition.

The Oak Tree Stakes at 2.25pm could be one of the races of the week after 17 were declared for the Fillies' & Mares' Group 3, including the likes of hat-trick seeking Soft Whisper for Saeed bin Suroor.

Meanwhile, the Molecomb Stakes at 3pm sees George Scott's progressive Rocket Rodney tussling with Norfolk Stakes runner-up Walbank for David Loughnane in a promising field of eight.

Tip of the day: Baaeed to keep rivals at bay.

Hollie Doyle will hope to record a second-straight victory aboard Nashwa on Thursday in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes

It is fillies to the fore on day three as the feature is the Group 1 Nassau Stakes at 3.35pm.

Nashwa landed Classic glory in France last month for Hollie Doyle and the Gosdens and she will be expected to back that up now.

However, the opposition may include the likes of Rogue Millennium, History, My Astra and Lilac Road in what promises to be a thriller.

Ahead of that, Goodwood standouts are on the undercard via the Richmond Stakes at 2.25pm and the Gordon Stakes, which should get underway at 3pm.

Tip of the day: Nashwa to land the spoils yet again.

Goodwood is synonymous with speed and that is the key trait in the Friday feature race the King George Stakes which takes place over one of the fastest five-furlong tracks in Britain at 3.35pm.

Among the contenders this year is Mick Appleby's Raasel, the five-year-old having become a proper success story for his owners The Horse Watchers after eight wins in his last ten starts.

He won a Group 3 at Sandown this month and will attempt his most daring mission to date here.

Dragon Symbol, Khaadem, Caturra and Mitbaahy are just some of the speedsters that may hope to thwart James Doyle's partner on this fantastic stage.

Tip of the day: Raasel to rule supreme on Friday.

The final afternoon at Glorious Goodwood is the traditional slot for the Stewards' Cup, a six-furlong event renowned as being one of the toughest sprint handicaps in Britain.

A huge turnout will be expected and last year's winner Commanche Falls will bid to become the first repeat winner since Sky Diver scored in 1967-68.

Preceding that will be the Lillie Langtry Stakes, a Fillies & Mares' Group 2 won three times by trainer John Gosden since 2016 — a record for the race.

This month's Lancashire Oaks scorer Free Wind may represent the Clarehaven team in the concluding Group contest of Glorious Goodwood.

Tip of the day: Commanche Falls can make history at Goodwood
