Liverpool are considering a January move for Tottenham and Manchester United target Antoine Semenyo, reports i Paper.
Semenyo has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most effective wingers having stepped out of Dominic Solanke’s shadow on the south coast after the striker’s move to Tottenham last year.
The Ghana international scored 11 goals and provided five assists for Bournemouth in the Premier League last season, and has made a strong start to 2025/26 having netted six league goals and laid on an additional three assists for the Cherries.
Semenyo bagged a brace on the opening day of the Premier League season as Bournemouth ultimately fell to a 4-2 loss at defending champions Liverpool.
Reports now suggest the Reds are eyeing up Semenyo as they look to bolster their attack further at the turn of the year.
Liverpool spent big to strengthen attack
Liverpool strengthened their frontline considerably in the off-season as they brought in Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.
In addition, Mohamed Salah put pen to paper on a new deal, though the Egypt international has made a slow start to the season having scored just two goals in the opening eight games of the campaign.
And with Salah expected to jet off to Morocco for AFCON at the end of the year, Liverpool are weighing up whether to make a move for Semenyo when the transfer window opens in January.
Semenyo will be available for the duration of the festive period owing to Ghana’s failure to qualify for the tournament in Morocco, which runs from mid-December to mid-January.
Rumoured release clause may twist Bournemouth's hand
Bournemouth, who set an asking price of £75m for Semenyo earlier in the year, will be reluctant to lose one of their prized assets.
However, it’s rumoured that the new deal Semenyo signed over the summer contains a release clause, meaning the Cherries would be powerless in their quest to retain the 25-year-old’s services.
“I don’t know anything about the contracts of the players. I don’t know how much they earn and don’t know want to know either,” Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola said when asked about a release clause in the forward’s contract last week.
“The most important thing for me is that he continues playing well. If he does there will be more noise but it’s something we take if he’s playing well. My concern is to keep him in the spot where he’s playing well.”
Liverpool not the only side in for Semenyo
Liverpool would face stiff competition for Semenyo, who has also attracted interest from Tottenham and Manchester United.
Earlier this month, Spurs announced an initial £100m capital injection in order to help strengthen the squad in the New Year. The Lewis Family, who relieved Daniel Levy of his duties last month, are committed to backing the club financially as they look to deliver further success.
And Spurs are looking to sign a left winger in the New Year after they failed to land Savinho from Manchester City, the Brazilian having since signed a new deal at the Etihad Stadium.
United, meanwhile, are out to add further attacking reinforcements despite spending big to sign Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
Bournemouth will hope to retain Semenyo’s services until at least the end of the season having made a strong start to the campaign. The Cherries have picked up 15 points from the opening eight matches and are unbeaten since their opening day loss at Anfield.
