  • Over 2.5 goals has landed in the last three Championship games for each side

  • Ipswich's last five home games have averaged 3.8 goals per game

  • Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals

Ipswich were pre-season title favourites in the Championship but the Tractor Boys are languishing in the bottom half after winning only three of their first 10 games.

West Brom started well but Ryan Mason's side have gone off the boil of late, with four defeats in seven since the start of September.

After midweek losses for both teams, confidence could be low when they tussle at Portman Road at lunchtime on Saturday.

Team News

Kieran McKenna made seven changes ahead of the midweek loss at home to Charlton and the Ipswich boss is left with another head-scratcher now. Azor Matusiwa is available again after suspension and should be recalled.

Goalkeeper Alex Palmer went off injured while the midweek game was scoreless with a suspected pulled calf muscle and is set to miss out alongside Conor Townsend.

Mason handed a start to Alfie Gilchrist in West Brom's midweek loss against Watford but the 21-year-old limped off in the second half and is a doubt for this game, while Tammer Bany continues to miss out.

Manchester United loanee Toby Collyer missed the Vicarage Road defeat with a hamstring problem and is likely to be absent again, though George Campbell and Josh Maja are in contention to come back in.

The stats

Over 2.5 goals has landed in six of Ipswich's last seven games and in each of West Brom's last three.

Ipswich have won just one from four in the league, losing their last two.

West Brom have lost four of their last seven in the Championship.

The Baggies are unbeaten in four against Ipswich, recording two wins alongside a pair of draws.

Both teams have scored in three of those four meetings since 2018.

The last Portman Road clash finished 2-2 in February 2024.

Prediction

Two sides lacking in confidence meet in East Anglia and picking a winner is a thankless challenge.

West Brom let a lead slip in their defeat at Watford in midweek, while Ipswich slumped to their heaviest loss of the season as Charlton won 3-0 at Portman Road.

Before that, the hosts had scored 13 goals in five games at home in the Championship. The Baggies meanwhile have won three from six on their travels and only failed to score once.

Albion are unbeaten in the last four meetings between these sides. It finished 2-2 when they last met in East Anglia in February 2024 and another entertaining showdown seems likely.
