Coventry suffered their first defeat of the season at Wrexham
Sheffield United remained in the bottom three after another defeat
Southampton sacked manager Will Still after their latest defeat
Championship leaders Coventry will hope to get back to winning ways in midweek when they welcome Sheffield United to the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The Sky Blues were beaten 3-2 by Wrexham last Friday, but Middlesbrough failed to take advantage after a surprise 3-0 defeat to Watford.
Coventry’s tie with the Blades is one of 12 ties in midweek and here are our thoughts on all of them.
Birmingham vs Millwall (Tuesday, 7.45pm)
Birmingham restored some confidence last weekend with a 4-0 win over Portsmouth, but they will need to be at their best to overcome the Lions
Millwall are unbeaten in five games in the second tier and they have the second-best away record in the Championship, so they should be able to have their say.
Score prediction: Birmingham 1-1 Millwall
Bristol City v Blackburn (Tuesday, 7.45pm)
Bristol City’s confidence will be low after a 5-1 defeat to Stoke last weekend and Blackburn should be able to pounce.
The visitors have won two games in a row and they have won three of their last five matches away from home.
Score prediction: Bristol City 1-2 Blackburn
Charlton v West Brom (Tuesday, 7.45pm)
Charlton have proved to be a tough nut to crack in recent weeks and the Addicks are now unbeaten in four matches.
Four away defeats in five outings for West Brom suggest they could struggle at The Valley.
Score prediction: Charlton 1-0 West Brom
Derby v Hull (Tuesday, 7.45pm)
Derby have only won four games this season, but a run of four games without defeat suggests they are finding some momentum.
Hull are without striker Oli McBurnie and have several first-team players sidelined, so the points may be shared in this contest.
Score prediction: Derby 1-1 Hull
Ipswich v Watford (Tuesday, 7.45pm)
Ipswich have only lost one of their seven home games this season and they face a Watford side who are winless on the road in the second tier.
Both teams should be able to find the back of the net, but the hosts should prevail.
Score prediction: Ipswich 2-1 Watford
Leicester v Middlesbrough (Tuesday, 7.45pm)
Neither Leicester nor Middlesbrough will be full of confidence this week. The Foxes are winless in four, while Boro were hammered 3-0 by Watford. A score draw would not be a bad result considering the recent form.
Score prediction: Leicester 1-1 Middlesbrough
Oxford v Stoke (Tuesday, 7.45pm)
Oxford have only won once in front of their own fans this season and just seven goals scored at home suggest they are bound to struggle in midweek.
Stoke have picked up 11 points on the road this season and can come out on top here.
Score prediction: Oxford 0-1 Stoke
Coventry v Sheffield United (Tuesday, 8pm)
Coventry suffered their first defeat of the season last week against Wrexham, but that should serve as a wake-up call ahead of a meeting against struggling Sheffield United.
The Blades have lost five of their seven away ties and should fall short against Frank Lampard’s team.
Score prediction: Coventry 2-0 Sheffield United
Preston v Swansea (Wednesday, 7.45pm)
Preston have been a tough nut to crack at Deepdale, having only lost once in seven games in front of their own fans.
Swansea’s six away games have only contained nine goals in total, so this should be a tense affair.
Score prediction: Preston 1-1 Swansea
QPR v Southampton (Wednesday, 7.45pm)
This tie could go either way, with both teams out of form. QPR have lost three of their last four, while Southampton recently sacked manager Will Still after three defeats on the spin.
Score prediction: QPR 1-1 Southampton
Sheffield Wednesday v Norwich (Wednesday, 7.45pm)
Sheffield Wednesday have found wins hard to come by this season, but a home clash with Norwich may be what they need to restore confidence.
The Canaries have lost six in a row and have not won since August.
Score prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Norwich
Portsmouth v Wrexham (Wednesday, 8pm)
Portsmouth have only won two of their seven matches at Fratton Park this season and they are winless in four games in the second tier.
Wrexham will be buoyed by last Friday's win over Coventry, so an away win is not out of the question.
Score prediction: Portsmouth 0-2 Wrexham
