Carra: Do not question Klopp

Jamie Carragher has rubbished any notion that Jurgen Klopp is not the man to lead Liverpool forward.

The Reds have endured a miserable start to the campaign, compounded by their 4-1 defeat to Napoli in last week’s Champions League opener.

But Carragher reckons that it is the squad that will need a full refresh at Anfield, rather than the backroom team.

The ex-Liverpool defender said: "Energy has been sorely missing as Liverpool have become easy to play this season.

"Every Liverpool opponent has outrun them in their seven games so far. That is more worrying than the results.

"When Klopp and his think tank convene at the training centre, the injection of energy must be top of the agenda.

"That will prompt difficult decisions, analysing the performances of players who have given Klopp sterling service but are no longer capable of consistently executing his vision.

"If this is the beginning of the end of an era at Liverpool, everything changes except the manager."

Liverpool return to action when they host Ajax tonight, while their next Premier League fixture is not until Brighton’s visit on October 1.

FA Cup replays may be scrapped

Third and fourth round FA Cup replays may be scrapped as clubs look for ways to deal with a mounting fixture build-up.

An already crowded schedule due to the winter World Cup in Qatar has been exacerbated by postponements following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

With United, Chelsea and Liverpool all playing in Europe and having back-to-back games cancelled, there are limited opportunities to play the matches.

Though FA Cup replays can be lucrative to clubs further down the football pyramid, they have been scrapped in each of the past two seasons.

And that may be the case again as all parties look for ways to make sure all games can be played.

Everton have signed goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic on a short-term deal following injuries to Jordan Pickford and Andy Lonergan.

The 37-year-old will provide cover to Asmir Begovic and joins after leaving Leicester in the summer.

Jakupovic spent five years at the King Power Stadium making just four appearances, all of which came in the 2017-18 campaign.

A Swiss international, he has also spent time at Hull, Lokomotiv Moscow and Grasshoppers.

England No1 Pickford will be out until after the international break at the earliest, while Lonergan has a knee problem which he will take time recovering from.

The Toffees host West Ham on Sunday afternoon before a trip to Southampton on October 1.

Bruno's emotional farewell

Bruno has penned an emotional farewell to Brighton fans

Brighton legend Bruno has told fans the club "will always be in my heart" after following Graham Potter to Chelsea.

The retired right-back played 235 times for the Seagulls during a seven-year spell at the club, before moving on to the coaching staff.

He captained the side to promotion to the Premier League but has taken the chance to be a part of Potter’s backroom staff at Stamford Bridge.

An article on the Seagulls website stated that the Spaniard, 41, was reduced to tears as he said his goodbyes last Thursday.

Writing on social media, he said: "I'm heartbroken, probably like some of you. I have the same feeling as when I left home at 14; sure about my decision, but broken inside.

“What players, staff at the Amex, staff at the training ground, fans and the community have given me is unforgettable. Thank you.

"What these 10 years have shown me is that football is more than 90 minutes. Of all the unimportant things, football is the most important.

"I've given my heart and soul for this club and I would like to think that I’ve helped to leave Brighton in a better place than when I arrived.

“There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are you will always be in my heart. Your amigo, Bruno."
