Klopp charged with improper behaviour

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been charged with improper behaviour by the FA following the Reds' win over Manchester City last Sunday.

The German coach was sent to the stands during the match by referee Anthony Taylor after acting aggressively towards one of the assistant referees.

Mohamed Salah's winning goal was overshadowed by scenes off the pitch, which saw coins thrown at City boss Pep Guardiola and away fans singing songs and writing graffiti about the Hillsborough and Heysel disasters.

City also claimed one of their coaches had sustained windscreen damage outside Anfield, and shared a view that Klopp's pre-game comments had contributed to a fiery atmosphere on Merseyside.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday's home clash with West Ham, Klopp responded: "That is the life of people who speak in public. It is not the first time I am misunderstood.

"So I know what I thought. When someone misunderstands that — or wants to misunderstand that — I cannot help that.

"I know I have to be careful and I’ve known that for years and when I don’t, I realise it from time to time.

"I just answer and say what I think. I will try to do it in the future. It is never my aim to blame anyone or whatever, but I say what I know about things or how I judge it how I see it."

Iwobi wants to inspire like uncle Okocha

Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi has said he would like to emulate the career of his uncle Jay-Jay Okocha and become a role model for youngsters.

Iwobi, 26, is finally flourishing for the Toffees after enduring a difficult start to life on Merseyside.

Under boss Frank Lampard, the Nigeria international has become more consistent and comfortable as a central midfielder having played out wide for most of his career.

And Iwobi is hoping that a bit of family magic has been passed on from his legendary uncle.

He said: "He was an entertaining player to watch, and the skills he used to do were outrageous, that you only really see freestylers do.

"Hopefully the younger viewers will learn a bit more about him and understand why I chuck in some skills too.

"Sometimes I feel like I’m just that same kid that wants to express myself and play football but when I do realise that, ‘Wow, I have an influence on kids’, it’s mad. I just want to put positive things out there for them.

"It’s nice that kids look up to me and try to imitate me and play like me because I was once that kid who used to look up to my uncle."

Jess Carter has extended her contract at Chelsea until 2025.

Carter, 24, played her part in helping the Lionesses become European champions in the summer and the No7 has jumped at the chance to stay in West London.

Recognised as a versatile player, Carter has settled as a centre-back more recently and played 36 games for the Blues last season.

She has also picked up a remarkable haul of silverware to date including the FA Women’s Community Shield, both the League Cup and FA Women’s Cup twice, and the Women's Super League three times.

Upon signing her extension, she said: "I'm looking forward to continuing my development with the team, helping them to become even more successful."

General manager Paul Green added: "We are really delighted for Jess to sign a new contract with the club. She had an outstanding 2021-22 season for both club and country and we want to reward her for those achievements."

Brentford are doing their part to raise awareness on how to perform CPR

Brentford have announced that they will be raising awareness of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training at their game against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

A heart-shaped CPQR code will feature prominently on the front of the Bees' shirts for the West London derby to encourage millions watching around the world to take two minutes to learn the basics of CPR.

It comes as part of a new partnership between Brentford and a number of leading charities to improve heart health in the local community.

CPR demonstrations will also take place around the Gtech Community Stadium on the night and first-team players Mads Roerslev and Keane Lewis-Potter will feature in their own instructional video which will be published on social media.

The aim is to use the power of sport and a collective voice to change the game for cardiac health in West London.

Brentford offered Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen the chance to resume his career on a short-term deal last season after the Denmark ace suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020.

Wimbledon condemn staff abuse

AFC Wimbledon have condemned fan behaviour in the loss to Sutton last Saturday

AFC Wimbledon have hit out at the behaviour of some fans following the club's derby defeat to Sutton last Saturday.

The League Two side revealed club personnel were subjected to verbal and physical abuse after the Dons’ 1-0 loss at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

It was the first meeting between the two since 2002 and there was an estimated crowd of around 8,500.

A club statement condemning the abuse suffered by staff read: "Saturday’s result was understandably frustrating for everyone but the game was further marred by several unacceptable incidents that AFC Wimbledon cannot — and will not — tolerate.

"Many of our loyal fans, volunteers and staff have worked tirelessly to rebuild our club from scratch and facilitate our return to Plough Lane.

"They freely give their time and energy and yet some found themselves targets of vitriol and hatred as a tiny band of ‘supporters’ inexcusably turned their frustration into anger.

"Several unsavoury incidents have now been reported to us, with club staff, volunteers and Dons Trust Board members on the receiving end of verbal and even physical abuse.

"The club takes a zero-tolerance approach to verbal or physical abuse directed towards its staff and volunteers and, where possible, action will be taken against those responsible."
