Richarlison given World Cup boost

Richarlison is not at risk of missing the World Cup after limping off in Tottenham’s victory over Everton.

The Brazilian forward was nearly in tears as he left the pitch with a calf problem on Saturday night.

After scoring seven goals in his last six games for his country, there were fears he may miss next month's tournament.

While he will not be available for Spurs’ trip to Manchester United on Wednesday, boss Antonio Conte has confirmed he will be fine for Qatar.

Conte said: "Richarlison is doing a scan, an MRI and then we'll see how long he needs to recover. For sure against United he is not available."

On missing the World Cup, the Italian coach, 53, added: "No, absolutely not. I can confirm this. The player is not risking missing the World Cup. Absolutely not.

"It's an injury but not so serious. He has a problem in his calf. I think he needs a bit of time to recover and then to be fit. I hope for him to play other games with us before the World Cup."

Keane: City win could be Reds' turning point

Manchester United legend Roy Keane believes Liverpool’s narrow win over Manchester City will be a turning point for the Merseysiders.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have endured a difficult start to the campaign and were on a three-game winless run in the league prior to yesterday’s victory.

But they beat rivals City 1-0 thanks to Mohamed Salah’s strike in a pulsating clash at Anfield.

Keane, 51, said: "I think it was a big lift for the club. The players and the manager have been heavily criticised since the start of the season and rightly so because they've not been performing to the high standards they've set over the last few years.

"It could be a turning point for them. It was the way they won the game.

"I don't think it was necessarily great quality from both teams. There was an edge, intensity. There were question marks over the team over the last week or two.

"The way they got over the line was pretty ugly. Salah had a chance just before that. But then the goal he scores, great finish, shocking defending from Man City.

"I think it is more than three points."

The Reds are back in action on Wednesday night as they welcome West Ham to Anfield.

De Gea thrilled with landmark clean sheet

David de Gea was thrilled after he marked his 500th appearance for Manchester United with a clean sheet.

The Red Devils were unable to find a winner in the 0-0 draw with Newcastle as they drew for the first time in Erik ten Hag’s tenure.

Before the game Alex Ferguson presented De Gea, 31, with a special award and he felt it was a well-earned shutout on the day.

"[I'm] so, so happy. Proud to reach 500 games, especially with a clean sheet," De Gea said.

"[It] could be better if we score one goal, but the feeling is great.

"Newcastle have been playing really good football, scoring goals, so to keep a clean sheet today is big for us.

"If you cannot win the game then keep a clean sheet and at least we have one point, but I think if we want to finish in the top places in the table we have to win those games."

And after his 170th clean sheet for the club, De Gea felt it was apt for Ferguson to hand him his award.

He said: "It was the right person to give me the award. He brought me to the club, he trusted me and believed in myself so it was great to be there at Old Trafford, a full Old Trafford with Sir Alex and it was a great moment”

United will want to get back to winning ways when they host Tottenham on Wednesday night.

Cooper annoyed at social media post

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper admitted he is not happy with a social media graphic posted by the club ahead of their defeat at Wolves.

Forest posted a photo of Emmanuel Dennis playing with three baby wolves alongside the caption ‘playtime’ on Saturday morning, which they then deleted.

They went on to lose the game 1-0 with Ruben Neves scoring from the spot, before Brennan Johnson saw a penalty saved late on by Jose Sa.

Wolves responded with a graphic of their own at full-time and Cooper revealed he had not seen it before the game but that it is being dealt with in house.

He said: "I wasn't aware of it but was later notified what happened. It wasn't a good thing by the club but is being dealt with. It's important to learn from it.

"It didn't impact on the performance and result, I'm not going to use it as an excuse. Professional players don't need social media posts to be motivated.

"It wasn't a good moment but we need to draw a line and move on from it.

"It wasn't helpful but it's done now. It won't happen again."

Vieira: We need to be more clinical

Patrick Vieira has called on Crystal Palace to be more clinical in the final third when Wolves visit tomorrow.

The Eagles drew 0-0 at Leicester on Saturday and have only found the back of the net 10 times in nine league games.

Vieira is not concerned as his young side continue to find their feet at this level, but he knows that will have to change soon.

"We would like to score more goals, and we would like to concede fewer goals," Vieira said.

"We would like to grow as a team and we have seen against Leeds that we managed the game well.

"This was one of the elements that we needed to improve, but we need to be more consistent in our clarity about how we want to approach the game.

"We are still growing as a team. We know that there is a lot to improve but so far we are in a good place — even if I want more from the players."
