Bissouma set for Spurs

Yves Bissouma is reportedly set to undergo a medical at Tottenham on Thursday after Spurs agreed a £25million deal to sign the midfielder from Brighton.

Multiple sources say the North Londoners are in advanced to talks to sign the Mali international on a five-year deal.

The 25-year-old has one year remaining on his contract at the Amex and is expected to depart this summer.

The likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester United are among the other clubs who were said to be tracking the Seagulls' No8.

If the deal goes through, Bissouma will be Antonio Conte’s third signing of the summer following the free captures of Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster.

Matic reunites with Mou again

Roma have announced the signing of free agent Nemanja Matic on a one-year deal.

The Serbian, 33, was available for free after leaving Manchester United when his contract expired this summer.

It is the third time Giallorossi boss Jose Mourinho has signed the midfielder having brought him back to Chelsea in 2014 and then to the Red Devils three years later.

Roma general manager Tiago Pinto said: "Nemanja brings with him to Roma not just a lot of quality on the pitch, but the vast experience he has gained from so many seasons in the Premier League and a focus and mentality that has consistently set him apart throughout his career.

"The enthusiasm he showed at the prospect of joining our project was hugely encouraging and I am sure that will serve as a starting point for a very productive journey for all of us."

Bronze going for gold

England star Lucy Bronze wants the Lionesses to harness the benefit of playing in front of a home crowd at Women's Euro 2022 next month.

The men's side played six of their seven games at Wembley during last summer's Euro 2020 as they came agonisingly close to lifting the trophy — losing to Italy on penalties in the final.

Now it is the turn of the women's team to play host as they prepare for group games in front of capacity crowds at Old Trafford, the Amex and St Mary’s in the hope of eventually reaching the Wembley showpiece on July 31.

Experienced full-back Bronze, 30, said: "We're trying to see it as a lot of support. It's our 12th man, hopefully.

"I think the best and biggest players want to play in those games with the full crowds.

"We saw what a difference it made to the men's team last year and we've actually spoken to a lot of them in the past week about their experiences and what a difference it made, kind of being that home nation."

Both the women’s and men's teams have been training at St George’s Park in recent weeks as they prepare for their respective Euro 2022 and Nations League fixtures.

Bronze added: "They made the final so I think that's something we want to replicate and use to our advantage.

"Declan [Rice] and Kieran [Trippier] came in to talk to us as a group and speak about their experiences but, equally, we've been in and around St George's Park with them for the past couple of weeks, so we've chatted to a lot of them.

"It's a nice atmosphere because I feel like both teams have gelled really well, which in the past I don't think has really happened. They're just our peers and they see us the same."

Kenny seals Germany return

Jonjoe Kenny has joined Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin on a three-year deal after leaving Everton.

The right-back, 25, opted to depart the Toffees when his contract expired after rejecting an offer to extend his stay at Goodison Park.

The Everton academy graduate has struggled to nail down a regular spot in Everton’s side in recent years after breaking into the team under Sam Allardyce during the 2017-18 season.

Kenny enjoyed a successful loan spell with Schalke in 2019-20 before spending the first half of last season at Celtic.

After sealing his return to Germany, Kenny said: "The club made it clear how much they wanted me. I’m pleased to be here. I’m looking forward to playing for this club, seeing the fans and moving to this city."

Blackburn appoint Tomasson

Championship side Blackburn have confirmed the appointment of Jon Dahl Tomasson as their new head coach.

The ex-Malmo boss, 45, takes over from Tony Mowbray, who left the club after five years in charge at the end of last season.

Blackburn’s director of football Gregg Broughton said: "In Jon Dahl Tomasson, we have been able to recruit a head coach who fits perfectly with the direction that Blackburn wants to go in. 

"While considering how we want to build the club, how we want our teams to play and how we want to recruit and develop players, Jon was the standout candidate."
