Flying into trouble

Roberto De Zerbi has axed Leandro Trossard from Brighton's squad for tomorrow's game with Liverpool due to unprofessional behaviour.

Tottenham target Trossard, who has also been linked with a reunion with Graham Potter at Chelsea, left a training session without permission last week after being informed he would not start against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round.

And De Zerbi, 43, has come down hard on his star man, despite leaving the door open for a reconciliation.

The Seagulls boss said: "Leandro isn't in the list of players for tomorrow. He left the session without saying anything to me. And it's not good.

"I spoke with him and I explained this attitude, this behaviour, I don't like.

"I am open with him to take a step back and listen to him but he has to understand I want only players who work hard and play for the team 100%.

"I don't know about the transfer market, if he wants to change teams or not."

Things will get better

Kalidou Koulibaly insists Chelsea will get back on track after last night's disappointing defeat to Fulham.

The 10-man Blues went down 2-1 but have little time to lick their wounds ahead of another London derby with Crystal Palace on Sunday.

And Koulibaly, who levelled matters at Craven Cottage before Joao Felix was red-carded, is confident Graham Potter's beleaguered side can pick up a positive result against the Eagles.

The Senegal centre-back, 31, said: "We know it's difficult for the supporters. But we are going to do everything to change this situation and I hope they keep believing in this team.

"There is a lot of pressure on the manager and on the team but everybody is behind the manager.

"We want to help him and make him proud. It's difficult at the moment but we're going to do everything.

"We are going to help each other and as a team we are going to keep on working."

Rest in peace

England star Beth Mead has paid tribute to her mum following her death from ovarian cancer.

The Arsenal forward, who helped fire the Lionesses to Euro 2022 glory last summer, took to social media to confirm that June Mead had passed away peacefully last Saturday.

She posted: "Thought long and hard about what to write but there will never be any words that will do justice.

"At 1am on January 7, our beautiful, kind, funny mum and wife passed away after a long and brave battle against ovarian cancer.

"She was surrounded by myself, my brother and dad as she passed away peacefully.

"Our hearts are broken, there will be a piece missing forever but heaven has now gained a special angel.

"If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever. I'm sad that you are gone, but I'm more grateful for the time we had together.

"Our family would appreciate some privacy during this difficult time. We love you lots, forever and always. RIP Mama."

Joelinton in the bad books

Eddie Howe could drop Joelinton for Sunday's Premier League clash with Fulham following the midfielder's arrest for drink-driving.

The Brazilian, 26, was charged by police after being stopped during the early hours of Thursday morning and is due to appear before magistrates later this month.

Asked if he would be available for the match with the Cottagers, Toon boss Howe said: "I'm going to have to reflect and analyse on that.

"I'll make a decision closer to the game in consultation with him, so I'm not 100% sure.

"My relationship with Joe is very good. I have sat down with him and will do so again.

"Ultimately, I have to pick the best team to win the game, that’s my job, but I also have to take into account the situation around that."

Reds may not Kop more recruits

Jurgen Klopp is not confident of Liverpool adding more players to the squad during the January sales.

The Reds moved quickly to land Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven at the start of the window but Klopp, 55, has played down talk of further fresh faces at Anfield.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's visit to Brighton, the German said: "My job is to use the boys we have. That's it. You cannot solve all problems in a transfer window.

"It's just not that easy, we cannot sort the problems with our injuries. The transfer market is not the solution in this moment."

Vieira: We must focus on ourselves

Patrick Vieira insists Crystal Palace must not be distracted by Chelsea's woes on Sunday as they look to address their own inconsistency.

Blues boss Graham Potter is under intense pressure ahead of the Stamford Bridge showdown after his side were beaten 2-1 at Fulham last night.

But Vieira is adamant there can be no sense of complacency within the Palace camp.

He said: "At the moment, yes, Chelsea may be in a difficult period, because things are going against them, but that doesn't take away the quality they have.

"We have to perform well and not think at all about the run of games they are having at the moment.

"We want to focus on ourselves. We want to improve. We want to be more competitive and more consistent in our performances to allow ourselves to win games."

New deal for Ched

Ched Evans has signed a one-year extension with Preston.

The striker, 34, was set to be out of contract in the summer but will now remain at Deepdale until the end of next season.

He said: "I think the next 18 months at Preston could be really positive. If you look at where we are in the league as well, it looks like there could be big, exciting times ahead.

"I'm happy here, really happy. I'm friends with all the lads, I get on with everybody, so it was an easy decision.

"I feel good, I feel strong at the moment and it's probably the best position I've been in for the past few years and I'm just really pleased with how it's going."

Preston, who are 10th in the Championship and two points outside the play-off places, host Norwich tomorrow.
