Sterling boost for England

England forward Raheem Sterling is to return to Qatar ahead of Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final with France.

Sterling, 28, flew back to England prior to the Three Lions’ 3-0 last-16 win over Senegal following a break-in at his family home in Surrey.

The Chelsea winger’s spokesperson said he left the camp to "prioritise the wellbeing" of his family.

But he is now expected to rejoin the squad in Al Wakrah on Friday, boosting his hopes of being able to feature in their blockbuster showdown with Les Blues.

Depay dreaming of magic moment

Netherland’s World Cup quarter-final clash with Argentina evokes memories of famous goals over the years and Memphis Depay is hoping the Dutch can deliver another on Friday in Qatar.

A Marco van Basten-inspired Oranje dismantled Argentina 4-0 back in 1974, while their quarter-final meeting in 1998 is remembered for Dennis Bergkamp’s glorious 90th-minute winner.

The Barcelona forward said: "[Bergkamp’s goal] was an amazing moment for the country, and what a goal. This game will be decided by moments. We believe we can catch a moment and go through."

Dutch boss Louis van Gaal added: "Football is no longer being played as it was in 1998 or 1974 or whatever.

"Then it was an open game which it no longer is. Football has evolved but it is always possible, as Memphis has said, to have decisive moments that you remember years later, like Bergkamp’s goal."

Brazil won’t stop dancing

Brazil boss Tite says he will not apologise to those who criticised his players for dancing after scoring goals at the World Cup.

The 61-year-old even joined in with the celebrations in the Selecao’s 4-1 win over South Korea in the last 16.

Tite has insisted those claiming the scenes were disrespectful to the opposition do not understand the Brazilian culture.

Ahead of facing Croatia in the quarter-final, he said "This is not my team, this is the Brazil team and I have the responsibility of being head coach.

"I am very sorry, but I won't make comments about people who do not know Brazilian football history, Brazilian culture, the way each one of us is.

"So, to those I leave that noise aside. I want my connection to be to my job, to people I relate to, to those who relate to my work, who know how much I respect and know my history.

"Those are the ones I give my heart and attention to. I am very discrete. I will continue to be so, because I respect the culture and the way I am, and this national team I play with.

"Having said this in terms of education we will definitely be identifying with [young people] and lots of other kids who will dance because that's our culture when we score, and it's not being disrespectful to anyone.

"That's how we do things, that's us in terms of culture, but we also help the education of these kids in school and we will continue doing things in our manner."

Fifa has commented on the death of a migrant worker at Qatar

Fifa says it is "deeply saddened" following the death of a migrant worker at a World Cup facility in Qatar.

A Filipino national fell to his death while carrying out repairs at a resort used as a training base by the Saudi Arabian team.

The tournament’s supreme committee said the worker was "not working under his remit" and the incident took place "on property not under its jurisdiction."

A statement from world football’s governing body said: "Fifa is deeply saddened by this tragedy and our thoughts and sympathies are with the worker's family.

"Fifa will be in a position to comment further once the relevant processes in relation to the worker's passing have been completed."
