Rom feeling the Blues over Chelsea exit

Romelu Lukaku has spoken out on his departure from Chelsea.

The Belgian striker, 29, has joined Inter Milan on loan for the 2022-23 season and is set to make his competitive return for the Nerazzurri in their Serie A opener against Lecce on Saturday night.

Lukaku scored 47 goals in 72 league games during his previous two-year spell at the San Siro, which earned him a second chance at Chelsea last summer.

But weighed down by his club-record £97.5million price tag, the powerful forward failed to shine at Stamford Bridge and is now motivated to prove his critics wrong.

He told DAZN Italia: "I think in one year everyone has forgotten about the things I am capable of doing on the pitch. That is a kind of anger that I have inside me.

"Last season at Chelsea has given me extra motivation to do even better than before. The season at Chelsea was difficult for me.

"I had the opportunity to go back there and thought I would be a hero, but that wasn’t the case.

"In March, I heard there was an opportunity to come back here [to Inter Milan].

"I had no doubts, that is why I made the decision to come back."

Silva: City do not get enough credit

Manchester City's Bernardo Silva believes his club's achievements are overlooked

Midfield maestro Bernardo Silva believes Premier League champions Manchester City do not get the credit they deserve.

City’s No20 has been part of the side that has won four of the last five league titles, but the Portuguese ace thinks Pep Guardiola’s outfit remain underrated.

Ahead of Saturday’s game against Bournemouth, he told ESPN: "I feel like other clubs get a lot more credit than Man City for doing less.

"At Man City, you do something great and they make it look like it's just good.

"Playing in the Premier League and winning four titles in five years and checking the Premier League Team of the Year every year and knowing that we're never the team that has the most players.

"We don't have the best manager, we don't have the best players, but we still win four Premier Leagues in five years?

"It just doesn't make sense. It probably shows that Man City players don't get as much credit as they should."

Rumours have circulated this summer that the 28-year-old is close to an Etihad exit, but Silva remains calm about his future.

He added: "I've always said that I'm happy here, but I have no idea what's going to happen.

"I've been open with them and they know what I want.

"If I stay, I'm very happy, and I will always respect this club and give all my best.

"If not, it's football and we'll just see what happens."

Fergie time is over

Javier Hernandez won two league titles under Alex Ferguson at Manchester United
Javier Hernandez won two league titles under Alex Ferguson at Manchester United

Former Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez believes the club must stop dwelling on the Alex Ferguson era if they are to enjoy future success.

United won 13 league titles during the Scot’s 27-year reign at Old Trafford, but have fallen from grace since his departure in 2013.

The Red Devils lost their opening match of the season at home to Brighton and go into Saturday evening’s game at Brentford already facing criticism.

And for current boss Erik ten Hag to build a team capable of winning the English top flight, Hernandez believes it is time for United to draw a line under their past.

He said: "To substitute a man like that is not easy. It is like winning the lottery.

"Do you think anyone you hire afterwards is going to be able to do 80% of what Ferguson did?

"My point of view is that after Ferguson, it brings so much pressure that it just isn’t going to work out.

"United need to now get over the fact that Alex Ferguson has gone.

"Would we like to have someone similar? Yes, yes, yes. But Sir Alex has gone and it is never going to be the same.

"So United have to adapt and allow the next manager to do it in his own way."

Rangers power on

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst relished another victorious European night at Ibrox after his side overturned a 2-0 deficit against Union Saint-Gilloise to qualify for the Champions League play-off round.

James Tavernier’s penalty moments before half-time broke the deadlock before second-half goals from Antonio Colak and Malik Tillman earned the Glaswegians a tie with Eredivisie giants PSV.

Van Bronckhorst’s men enjoyed a run to the Europa League final last term, and the Dutch coach was thrilled to see his team win another knockout clash.

Van Bronckhorst, 47, said: "We needed a big performance and the pressure was on us after last week.

"We know we are capable of delivering big nights for the club. But still, you have to do it over and over again.

"That’s why I am so proud of my players, the way they played, with passion, with desire, with fire to go to the next round.

"That is the only way you have to be on the pitch, to create the atmosphere we created with the fans.

"It was an amazing night for all of us."
