Fantasy football managers will be busy selecting their teams this week ahead of the return of the Premier League and with some tough decisions to make over who to include, we have come up with five players we think are worth having and could score plenty of points in week one.

William Saliba, Arsenal (Defender)

William Saliba was outstanding for Arsenal last season and was one of the big reasons the Gunners had the best defence in the Premier League, conceding just 29 goals.

The France international will not only pick up points for clean sheets though, as he is also dangerous from set-pieces at the other end.

Saliba will want to improve on the two goals he managed last season and the centre-back has already shown good signs this summer, scoring the opener in Sunday's friendly win over Lyon.

Daniel Munoz, Crystal Palace (Defender)

Colombia full-back Daniel Munoz was one of the players who thrived under Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner in the second half of last season, as the Austrian coach's attacking approach suited his game.

In the final 11 matches when Palace finished strongly, Munoz contributed with four assists for the Eagles as he provided threat and creativity out wide and he seems set for another good season at Selhurst Park.

Emile Smith Rowe, Fulham (Midfielder)

Selecting a player who has just joined a new club is viewed as a risk as there is plenty of uncertainty over how they will perform in new surroundings, but Emile Smith Rowe should do the business for Fulham after leaving Arsenal.

The 24-year-old appears to be enjoying life with the Cottagers already as he has scored twice in pre-season for Marco Silva's side and he will be keen to make his mark as early as possible in the new campaign when Fulham go to Manchester United in the season opener on Friday evening.

Diogo Jota, Liverpool (Midfielder)

Including an attacking Liverpool midfielder seems wise considering the Reds are expected to start their campaign with a victory over newly-promoted Ipswich.

Plenty of Fantasy League players will opt for Mohamed Salah, but fitting Erling Haaland and Salah into the same team stretches the budget too much, so Diogo Jota is a cheaper alternative.

The Portuguese only managed 10 goals and three assists in the league last season, but he had his fair share of injury problems to deal with.

He looked in great shape when scoring a superb volley in Liverpool's 4-1 friendly win over Sevilla on Sunday and could start the new Premier League campaign with a bang.

Erling Haaland, Manchester City (Forward)

Erling Haaland is a must for the majority of Fantasy Premier League managers and it is obvious to see why.

The Manchester City striker has been the league's top scorer for the past two seasons, netting 36 times in 2022-23 and then 27 times last term, while he also weighed in with five assists last season and he is the champions' penalty-taker.

Unlike a lot of his top-flight rivals, Haaland has also had the benefit of a full pre-season to prepare for the big kick-off and he has bagged five goals for City over the summer in their friendlies to suggest he is in the mood to hit the ground running again.

Captain pick - Erling Haaland

Haaland usually starts the season with a goal or two and he seems the obvious captain's pick for the first week when he goes up against a Chelsea defence that has leaked a lot of goals in summer friendlies.
