Adayar remains in contention for the Champion Stakes at Ascot

Trainer Charlie Appleby will leave the final decision to run Adayar in the Champion Stakes at Ascot on Saturday as long as possible.

Adayar, this year's Derby and King George hero, ran last week in the prestigious Prix de l'Arc du Triomphe at ParisLongchamp — the most lucrative sprint race held in Europe.

He finished fourth after German horse Torquator Tasso stunned the field with an 80/1 victory.

Tarnawa and Hurricane Lane were second and third respectively, with Adayar ending the race three and three-quarter lengths adrift of the eventual victor.

The Arc run was Adayar's first for over two months after he missed the preparation race through injury.

A lack of race practice plus very testing, heavy ground meant he could not make it three Group One successes for the year, but he could be in line to make a swift return to action on British Champions Day for the mile and two-furlong contest.

The Godolphin-owned son of Frankel will be left in the five-day confirmation stage before the race according to Appleby, who said he came out of the Arc in good shape.

The Newmarket-based trainer said: "He will be left in the Champion Stakes tomorrow, for the simple reason at the moment he has come out of the Arc well.

"Should connections ask me next week how the horse is, and I say 'jumping around' and they say 'where can we go?', I'd look a bit daft saying I'd taken him out of the Champion Stakes on the Monday.

"He will stay in tomorrow. We've an open book and should connections want to run him again and I can't at that time give a negative for not to run him, then the Champion Stakes will be looked at."

Godolphin are likely to have a strong team at Ascot next week with two more stable stars set to run on Saturday.

Master Of The Seas came third in the Group Two Joel Stakes at Newmarket last month, but did win the Craven Stakes at the same course earlier this year. He is primed for entry in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

Creative Force has a slightly more illustrious CV, winning four races this year including the Group Three Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, although he has gone three races without victory since.

He will race in the Champions Sprint after competing in the July Cup and Sprint Cup at Newmarket and Haydock respectively.

Appleby is confident the pair of three-year-olds can mount a challenge on Saturday as they seek their first successes at Group One level.

He added: "The way the weather forecast is potentially looking, Master Of The Seas will run in the QEII and Creative Force will head to the Champions Sprint. Two handy horses.

"Creative Force is learning how to sprint now. We've seen what he can do over seven. He's been competitive at six and he's still learning.

"As we all know, dropping back into sprinting divisions at that level, it takes a bit of getting the hang of, but he's getting there and he'll go into the weekend a big player.

"Master Of The Seas has definitely come on for that run in the Joel and we're looking forward to him."
