Wolves manager Bruno Lage is optimistic about Adama Traore penning a new contract with the club following off-season interest from Tottenham.

The 25-year-old Spanish winger, who moved to Molineux Stadium in 2018, has less than two years remaining on his current Wolves deal.

Traore and Wolves have been in discussions about a new deal although Lage would not be drawn on a specific update, but admitted he was hopeful a deal would be struck.

"I don’t know anything, what I know is the club want to make a new contract with him," Lage said. "From what I can see every day, Adama is happy to stay here and happy with his team-mates.

"Sometimes these kind of things take time and I think in the end it will be good for both. I’m very happy with what we have in our wingers because we have the competition we want and the players with a different profile.

"A player like him is very important. He’s a good guy and knows what he needs to improve.

"He’s working hard to improve his inside game. He started the season very well and I’m very happy with what he’s doing at the moment."

Tottenham made a move for Traore during the off-season, with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo now at the helm at Spurs. Spurs' bid for Traore was well below Wolves' valuation.

Traore has played all six of Wolves' league games this term but is yet to score or provide an assist. Lage's side have only managed three goals this Premier League season, ahead of only bottom side Norwich City (2).
