Brighton's Neal Maupay was unable to break the deadlock against Leeds

Leeds’ difficult start to the Premier League season continued with a goalless draw at Brighton.

The hosts had the best of the chances in what was largely a tight contest at the Amex Stadium, with Neal Maupay firing over from close range early on.

Leandro Trossard saw an effort tipped on to the post by Illan Meslier before Jakub Moder also saw a shot hit the woodwork.

The second half failed to bring many openings, with the Seagulls coming close through Solly March.

The away side did have opportunities of their own as the clock ticked on, with Robert Sanchez keeping out both Stuart Dallas and Tyler Roberts.

With the match drawing to a close, Graham Potter's men hit the woodwork for a third time when Meslier pushed March’s shot on to the post.

Leeds are five points worse off than they were at this stage last season, but boss Marcelo Bielsa was pleased with the point his side earned.

He said: "The point is an important point for us. In the first half the differences were big in their favour.

"And in the second half it was more even, there was alternate dominance and similar chances.

"In the first half, we were in conditions to play like we did in the second half, the structure of the team was the same.

"The change, we managed for them to lose confidence when they played out from the back.

"The duels, we evened them up, we improved the recovery of the ball — it's not that nothing changed."

Did you know?

The Seagulls have had 20 Premier League goalless draws since their promotion in 2017, at least six more than any other side.

There was an expected goals value of 2.7 in this game, the highest in a goalless draw in the Premier League this season.

With 14 fouls conceded, only Watford (161) have committed more fouls in the Premier League than Leeds this season (154).

At 21 years and 58 days, the only player younger than Tariq Lamptey to create as many as his five chances in a Premier League game this season is Callum Hudson-Odoi (20 years and 364 days vs Burnley).

The Whites have failed to score in each of their last six away league games against Brighton, their longest such run against an opponent since a run of six against Manchester United between 1992 and 1998.
