Arsenal vs Tottenham predictions: Home advantage should prove decisive

The 194th North London derby will take place at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and both Arsenal and Tottenham could hardly be heading into the contest in better form.

Both teams have collected 13 points from their first five Premier League matches, with the Gunners having also warmed up for this derby showdown with a comprehensive dismantling of PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League during the week.

Spurs have had no such European commitments to contend with and there is plenty of positivity surrounding Ange Postecoglou and his side, as they go in search of what would be a fifth-straight league win.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta faces a big decision regarding who starts in goal, with David Raya having been handed the gloves for the last two games, replacing Aaron Ramsdale, who will be chomping at the bit to return to the starting XI.

Gabriel Martinelli sat out the midweek victory over PSV with the hamstring injury he sustained at Everton last weekend, but he could now come back into contention, however, Thomas Partey (groin), Mohamed Elneny (knee) and Jurrien Timber (knee) all remain sidelined.

Spurs were dealt a major injury blow during the week, with Ivan Perisic set to miss much of the season with an ACL injury he sustained in training. The Croatian international joins Bryan Gil (groin), Rodrigo Bentancur (knee), Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring) and Giovani Lo Celso (thigh) on the treatment table.

Arsenal have won four of the last five North London derbies and completed the league double over their fierce rivals last season.

The Gunners were 2-0 winners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January – the first away league win for either side in the fixture since 2014.

Tottenham have made their best start to a league campaign since 1965 and will be seeking a fifth win on the bounce this weekend.

Spurs have only beaten Arsenal twice away from home in the Premier League era, with the most recent of those successes coming in November 2010 when goals from Gareth Bale, Rafael van der Vaart and Younes Kaboul helped them to a 3-2 win.

This is a fixture that has favoured the home team over recent years and Arsenal can once again make familiar surroundings count, even against a much-improved Tottenham.

The Gunners are unbeaten in their seven matches across all competitions this season, scoring in each of those games, although keeping clean sheets has not been as straightforward, particularly at home, where they have conceded in all three of their league games.

Spurs are averaging almost three goals-per-game in the Premier League this season and they put five past Burnley in their last away fixture, so they will expect to make their mark on Arsenal's backline.

However, that may be as good as it gets for Postecoglou's side, who could be on the wrong end of the result in an entertaining contest.

Over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of the last five North London derbies and that could be worth including alongside the home win.
