Ryan set for Irish Derby return

After a month out of action, jockey Rossa Ryan is set to return to the saddle on Mojo Star for Saturday's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh.

Ryan suffered a broken collarbone on May 26 after a nasty fall from Imajorblush at Wolverhampton and has been out recovering since.

Royal Ascot was expected to be the scene of Ryan's return but an operation for appendicitis saw his spell on the sidelines extended.

However, Ryan is now fit and ready to return aboard Mojo Star for the Irish Derby this weekend.

O'Brien happy with High Definition prep

Trainer Aidan O'Brien says he's happy with how High Definition is looking ahead of his run in the Irish Derby on Saturday.

The Galileo colt returned from a blood disorder to finish third at York, and was expected to feature at Epsom but connections made a late call to switch High Definition to the Curragh.

O'Brien has been pleased with the build up to the Irish Derby and is happy with High Definition's work behind the scenes.

"Everything has been good since he ran at York and the plan is for him to run," O'Brien said. "We're happy with him at the moment."

Ryan eyeing double run for Brando

Brando set for Newcastle trip ahead of July Cup
Brando set for Newcastle trip ahead of July Cup

Trainer Kevin Ryan has revealed Brando could be set for two quickfire outings, with runs at Newcastle and Newmarket on the cards.

The nine-year-old broke a blood vessel in the Duke of York Clipper Logistics Stakes in May and finished down the field in eighth.

With Brando set for a return, Ryan is hoping to see his charge in action at the Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle, before heading to Newmarket for the July Cup.

Ryan told Sky Sports Racing: "[Brando] was running a big race at York, travelled into it and then burst a blood vessel.

"He tends to do it once a year. Unfortunately it was at the races. He's done it before at the races but he's also done it at home.

"He was perfect after and has been in great form since. We'll run at Newcastle. He takes runs close together and there's enough time between now and the July Cup."

Sir Busker aimed at Woodbine Mile

Racing manager Sam Hoskins believes the Woodbine Mile would offer an ideal race for Sir Busker

The five-year-old impressed last time out after finishing third in Royal Ascot's Queen Anne Stakes.

While the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes has been highlighted as a possible target, Hoskins feels the Woodbine Mile might be the plan of attack for Sir Busker beforehand.

"The Queen Elizabeth II will be a big longer-term aim in October, but we could consider going to Woodbine in September for the Mile," Hoskins said.
