The League One play-offs look as intriguing as ever and Wycombe need to pick themselves up after seeing their hopes of automatic promotion disappear following a poor end to the regular season.

Opponents Charlton have enjoyed a strong second half of the campaign under Nathan Jones and will fancy their chances of gaining an advantage for the second leg at The Valley after posting a 4-0 win at Adams Park on Easter Monday.

The first-leg of this play-off tie will kick-off at 6.30pm on Sunday.

Team news

Wycombe will have to do without forward Sam Vokes, who sustained a broken arm in their final league game against Stockport, as well as Josh Scowen, who has a knee injury.

The Addicks are sweating on the fitness of three key players as wideman Thierry Small, midfielder Luke Berry and central defender Lloyd Jones are all battling to make the trip to Buckinghamshire.

The stats

Charlton’s last four matches have all featured more than two goals.

Just eight of the Addicks’ 25 league wins this season have been by a margin greater than one goal.

Wycombe have lost their last three League One matches.

The Chairboys have suffered defeat in four of their five home games against the other teams that finished in the top six.

Charlton have won four of their last six away games.

Prediction

There is little doubt that Wycombe head into the League One play-offs in the worst form of the four teams involved and they have a lot to prove against Charlton after allowing Wrexham to get away from them to grab the second automatic-promotion spot.

The Chairboys had to settle for fifth after losing their final three games of the season and there could be a deal of psychological damage caused by the fact those losses came against the other three play-off teams.

That damaging run included a 4-0 loss at home to Charlton on Easter Monday and that will go down, alongside a 1-0 Valley success against runaway champions Birmingham, as one of the Addicks best results of the season.

Charlton have been difficult to get on top of this season and have developed a handy habit of grinding out results, while their recent performance at Adams Park will provide plenty of confidence.

Having Lloyd Jones and Luke Berry available would be a boost to their chances, but striker Matt Godden has scored eight goals in his last 10 games so they will have little to fear.

Play-off games can be cagey, but Charlton are buzzing and are capable of obliging for draw-no-bet backers.
