Keegan Bradley took the Travelers Championship in dramatic fashion on Sunday and heightened the prospect of him being a playing captain at this year's Ryder Cup.
He will be at the Rocket Classic in Detroit this week as many of the PGA Tour's leading lights take the week off with perhaps one eye on next month's Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
The Michigan track hosts this tournament for the seventh time and four of the previous six winners have shot a score of 23-under-par or better to claim the victory.
Hall can step up a gear
There is an opportunity for some of the lower-profile PGA Tour players to make a big impression this week and England's Harry Hall falls into that category.
His ninth at the Travelers last week, where he finished with a 65, came a month after he was sixth at the Charles Schwab Challenge and last week's strong finish in a signature event will have done wonders for his confidence, as will his creditable 19th at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
Hall has finished in the top 25 in each of his last five tournaments and there are a lot of similarities to the run of seven top-25s in nine events as 2024 turned into 2025, so he possesses some strong momentum.
Red-hot Griffin is on fire

Ben Griffin looks to have a great chance to force his way into the American Ryder Cup team and this is another fine opportunity for him to boost his cause.
He won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside Andrew Novak in April and then triumphed on his own at Colonial Country Club in the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Griffin then found only world number one Scottie Scheffler too good after he rewarded his first-round leader backers with a 65 at the Memorial and, following his 10th at the tough Oakmont US Open and 14th at the Travelers, he looks set for another big week.
Jaeger ticks a lot of boxes
Germany's Stephan Jaeger has generally found the hot competition of signature events difficult this year, but he has performed well when dropping in grade and can shine in another gathering that cannot be described as elite.
He was 34th at TPC River Highlands last week but he was second at the Black Desert Championship in October, third at the Sony Open in Hawaii, sixth at the Mexican Open and 11th at the Houston Open.
His seventh at the Truist Championship was a good signature performance and he has some decent Rocket Classic form, having finished fifth in 2022 and ninth the following year.
