Coventry will look to move one step closer to the play-offs when they face Southampton in the Championship on Tuesday night.

The Sky Blues are four points behind sixth-placed Norwich, but they have a game in hand over the Canaries heading into the final two months of the campaign.

They could meet Southampton in the play-offs in May if they secure their spot, with the Saints fourth in the table and with their hopes of automatic promotion all but over.

Team news

Saints coach Russell Martin has said he will make changes after the recent 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers, which means Che Adams and Will Smallbone could return to the starting XI.

Ross Stewart and Juan Larios remain sidelined, but they hope to return before the end of the campaign.

Coventry coach Mark Robins is still without Jamie Allen due to a broken cheekbone, while Tatsuhiro Sakamoto is out for the season as he nurses a back injury.

However, he has no other issues to worry about and may stick with the same XI who got a result against Leeds on Saturday.

The stats

The two teams played out a 1-1 draw in the first fixture in December, which was another successful away trip for Southampton.

Martin's team have the third-best away record in the Championship, having gained 36 points on the road in 20 matches.

However, Southampton are winless in three in the second tier, while they have only won two of their previous five in the Championship at home.

Coventry have won seven of their previous 10 matches in all competitions, scoring two or more goals in six of those games.

Away from home, the Sky Blues have scored in 15 consecutive matches in all competitions.

Prediction

Southampton have been one of the best teams in the Championship all season, but their players might not be full of enthusiasm for Tuesday's encounter.

Having been in contention for the automatic promotion spots, the Saints have slipped away, and they are now destined for the play-offs.

Coventry's hunger is far greater and they will be full of confidence after beating third-placed Leeds.

Robins' team have scored 29 goals in their last 15 away games in all competitions and they should be able to leave the south coast with at least a share of the points.
