Ange Postecoglou's Spurs have won only six of their 15 away league games so far this season

- Both teams have scored in 11 of Newcastle's last 13 Premier League matches
- Tottenham have had four 2-2 draws in 15 away matches this season
- Recommended bet: 2-2 Correct Score

Newcastle have fond memories of last season's home fixture against Tottenham in the Premier League as they scored five goals in the first 21 minutes of their 6-1 victory.

Spurs hit back with a 4-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in this season's reverse fixture and they are on course for Champions League qualification in their first season under Ange Postecoglou.

They are slight favourites to defeat injury-ravaged Newcastle this weekend although their modest away record — just six wins in 15 games — should encourage Eddie Howe's hosts.

Team news

Joe Willock and Matt Targett face fitness tests but Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope, Miguel Almiron, Tino Livramento, Joelinton, Callum Wilson, Lewis Miley, Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman remain sidelined.

Dan Burn should continue at centre-back with Lewis Hall at left-back. Harvey Barnes is pushing for a recall but Sandro Tonali is still suspended.

Tottenham's injury problems have eased and Ryan Sessegnon, Manor Solomon and Fraser Forster should be their only absentees.

Striker Richarlison is expected to return to the squad after a minor knee injury.

The stats

Eddie Howe's Newcastle have lost only three league games at St James' Park this season
Eddie Howe's Newcastle have lost only three league games at St James' Park this season

Both teams have scored in 11 of Newcastle's last 13 Premier League matches.

The Magpies have claimed 10 of their 14 league wins at St James' Park this season.

Newcastle have lost six of their seven games against top-four clubs in 2023-24.

There have been over 2.5 goals in eight of Tottenham's last 10 away league games.

Spurs have had four 2-2 draws in 15 away matches this season.

Both teams have scored in seven of Tottenham's last eight league victories.

Prediction

Tottenham's inconsistency away from home is encapsulated by their last three results: a 4-0 win over top-four rivals Aston Villa, a 3-0 defeat at Fulham and a 1-1 draw at West Ham.

Newcastle's injury woes mean Spurs should scent blood at St James' Park but an entertaining 2-2 draw looks the best bet in a tricky heat for punters.

Tottenham have had four 2-2 draws on the road this term, at Brentford, Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton, and Newcastle are still able to unleash a classy attacking unit.

In-form striker Alexander Isak, supported by Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes, should unsettle an unconvincing Spurs defence and the Magpies have won 10 of their 16 home games this season.

Tottenham have also been heavily reliant on their home results as only six of their 18 league wins have come on the road and they may have to settle for a point in the north east.
