Mainz vs Borussia Dortmund predictions: BVB unlikely to leave with a win
Mainz are unbeaten in their last seven games in the Bundesliga
Dortmund are without a clean sheet in their last five league contests
Recommended bet: Draw
Borussia Dortmund are certain to be slightly distracted by their European exploits when they head to relegation-threatened Mainz on Saturday.
A 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes against the run of play secured Dortmund's place in the Champions League final on Tuesday night and all their remaining preparations will be geared towards next month's clash with Real Madrid.
Edin Terzic could be forgiven for rotating personnel in the club's two remaining league fixtures, especially as Champions League football is already guaranteed due to the Bundesliga getting five qualifying berths this term.
But there will be no complacency from Mainz, who are in the thick of a relegation battle in the Bundesliga and have not lost any of their last seven games in the top-flight.
Team news
Stefan Bell and Maxim Leitsch are both unlikely to feature or the hosts, while Phillipp Mwene is suspended.
Ramy Bensebaini is Dortmund's only absentee due to a knee injury and Niclas Fullkrug is likely to lead the attack once again.
The stats
Mainz have strung together a seven-game unbeaten run in the Bundesliga, conceding only four times in the process.
They have racked up 14 draws in the Bundesliga this season, the highest tally in the division.
Dortmund have lost just one of their last seven contests in all competitions.
Prediction
Borussia Dortmund survived an onslaught of 30 shots from PSG on Tuesday to secure their spot in the Champions League final and the club will be buzzing ahead of the weekend.
Mats Hummels scored the only goal in what was a cagey affair in midweek, but in their last Bundesliga contest BVB were ruthless 5-1 winners against Augsburg.
However with a Champions League final spot now under their belt and qualification for the competition next season already secured, Terzic may use their remaining league fixtures to rotate and experiment a little.
With that in mind, punters should not rush to back Dortmund, especially as they are up against a Mainz team fighting for their lives.
Mainz are two points off guaranteed safety – or one if there is an unlikely eight-goal swing with Union Berlin – and they have boosted their chances with a seven-game unbeaten run.
They have tightened up at the back since their 8-1 mauling by Bayern Munich in March, conceding only four times in their subsequent seven fixtures.
Since the end of March, they have earned draws against Leipzig, Freiburg, Cologne and Heidenheim and they could again share the spoils with Dortmund.
