- There have been at least four goals scored in four of Liverpool’s last five games
- Atalanta are yet to draw a blank in European competition this season
- Recommended bet:
Over 3.5 goals

Liverpool’s Premier League title bid was dealt a setback at the weekend as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Manchester United and now they turn their focus to Europe as they entertain Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-finals.

The Reds will be prioritising their domestic challenge, while La Dea’s top target is now probably Europa League glory.

A top-four finish in Serie A looks unlikely for Atalanta and their Coppa Italia hopes hang in the balance after a first leg semi-final loss to Fiorentina.

Team news

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is likely to stick with his policy of rotating his team for the Europa League as their Premier League title challenge is a clear priority.

Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson all missed the draw with Manchester United and are unlikely to be involved.

Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott all came off the bench at Old Trafford last time out and could come into the starting XI, while Ibrahima Konate is also pushing for a start.

Atalanta’s only confirmed absentee is 20-year-old defender Giorgio Scalvini.

The stats

Liverpool have scored 15 goals in normal time across their last five games.

Atalanta average 1.9 goals-per-game in the Europa League, while La Dea have scored in eight of their last 10 trips in all competitions.

Liverpool have scored at least three goals in seven of their last nine at Anfield.

Forward Cody Gakpo will be hoping to earn a start for the visit of Atalanta to Anfield.

Prediction

Liverpool continue their quest for more silverware in Klopp’s final season in charge on Thursday as they take on Atalanta in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie.

The Merseyside outfit have an incredible record at Anfield and they’ve won 10 of their last 11 at their home ground, with one draw against Manchester City and are the clear favourites to win when they host Atalanta.

A Liverpool win is the most likely result all things considered, but Klopp may opt to rest and rotate for this game ahead of Sunday’s league clash with Crystal Palace.

In contrast, Atalanta will give this tie their all as right now the Europa League is their most likely trophy target – they trail 1-0 after the first leg in their Coppa Italia tie with Fiorentina – so the goals markets look a good approach and over 3.5 goals appeals.

Both of these sides are capable going forward and over 3.5 goals has been a winning bet in four of Liverpool’s last five games.

Atalanta can add to the tally as they are yet to draw a blank in this competition this season and they could well be coming up against a changed defence.

Backing over 3.5 goals looks a solid option here, while a Liverpool win and over 3.5 goals is on offer at 7/5.
